Madrid boys come up short against Van Meter

The Madrid Tigers fell just short in their conference battle against Van Meter, 66-63, Tuesday, December 16, at Madrid High School.

The Madrid Tigers fell just short in their conference battle against Van Meter, 66-63, Tuesday, December 16, at Madrid High School. 

Van Meter jumped out to a 14-12 lead after the first quarter, but Madrid roared back with a 22-point second quarter to take a 34-28 halftime advantage.  

The Bulldogs responded in the third, outscoring Madrid 19-8 to reclaim control. 

 Despite a 21-point fourth-quarter rally by the Tigers, Van Meter held on for the narrow win. 

Jevyn Severson led Madrid with a game-high 23 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and adding 7 rebounds and 5 assists. 

Logan Bogardus scored 14 points, hitting four three-pointers and dishing out 2 assists. 

Emerson Bridgewater added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including two triples, while grabbing 4 rebounds and blocking a shot. 

On the glass, Zach Newell pulled down 5 rebounds and blocked a shot, while Max Fowler and Kolbie Owens each added 4 boards.  

Bridgewater also contributed a steal and an assist. 

Van Meter improved to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference while Madrid fell to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

Madrid looks to bounce back Friday, December 19, when they travel to Stuart to play West Central Valley (3-2 overall, 2-2 conference) for another conference matchup.
