
The Madrid Tigers boys’ basketball team traveled to Sheffield Tuesday, January 13, and earned a non-conference win, defeating West Fork, 63–47.
Madrid raced to a 23–11 lead after the first quarter, but West Fork battled back in the second, trimming the margin to just 32–30 at halftime.
The Tigers responded after the break, outscoring West Fork, 19–10, in the third quarter to regain control, and then sealed the victory with a strong finish.
Jevyn Severson delivered a great performance, scoring 35 points on 14-of-19 shooting and hitting 7-of-11 free throws.
Severson also grabbed 10 rebounds and added 3 assists.
Emerson Bridgewater scored 16 points, including two three-pointers, while pulling down 7 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists with just one turnover.
Kolbie Owens chipped in 7 points, hitting two threes and adding a free throw.
Logan Bogardus contributed 4 assists, and the Tigers controlled the boards thanks to Severson, Bridgewater, and Max Fowler, who added 4 rebounds.
With the win, Madrid improves to 10–3 overall, while West Fork falls to 3–6.
Madrid now turns its attention to a West Central Conference matchup at home against Des Moines Christian (7–2 overall, 7–0 conference) on Friday, January 16.
