The Madrid girls finished third and the boys finished fourth at a cross country meet Monday at the Ballard Golf & Country Club near Huxley, competing in Class B.
Led by the Brandhorst sisters, the Madrid girls finished third with 83 points, behind Van Meter (48) and Pella Christian (66).
Katelyn Brandhorst was the top finisher for Madrid, placing 2nd overall with a time of 20:18.5.
Hannah Brandhorst followed in 6th place, clocking in at 21:16.9.
Charis Peasley (20th), Adelyn White (25th), and Ari Mundy (30th) rounded out Madrid’s top five.
Makayla Mullenbach also competed, finishing 33rd.
Madrid edged out Roland-Story (84) and Iowa Falls-Alden/Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock (100).
The Madrid boys placed fourth with 93 points, led by a tight pack of top-20 finishers.
Hudson White led the team with an 8th-place finish in 18:42.2, followed closely by Cavin Pehl (9th, 18:52.0), Caleb Berberich (11th, 18:57.0), and Kris Peterson (17th, 19:25.9).
Blane Schneider, Aiden Titus, and Landen Schneider rounded out the team’s effort.
Madrid’s total team time was 1:39:30.5, placing them behind Pella Christian (44), Van Meter (70), and Nodaway Valley (82), but ahead of several strong programs including Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR and Eagle Grove.

Madrid cross country returns to action on Thursday, September 25 at the Norsemen Cross Country Invitational, held at River Bend Golf Course in Story City and hosted by Roland-Story.
