The Madrid boys’ basketball team opened postseason play Monday, February 16, rolling past Colfax‑Mingo 77–42 in a Class 1A district matchup at Madrid High School.
Madrid seized a 17–12 lead after the first quarter.
The Tigers extended the margin to 32–24 at halftime, then outscored the Tigerhawks 25–7 in the third quarter to push the lead to 57–31 entering the fourth.
Madrid ended with the 35‑point postseason win.
Jevyn Severson poured in 39 points on 18-of-28 shooting, knocking down his only three‑pointer, and going 2-for-2 at the line.
Severson also grabbed 11 rebounds (including 8 offensive boards) and tallied a block.
Logan Bogardus had 14 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers (4-of-7).
Max Fowler scored 9 points on 4-of-5 shooting and added 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Kolbie Owens dished out 6 assists with only 1 turnover, and collected 9 rebounds—including 2 offensive boards
Fowler added 4 assists, and Zach Newell contributed an efficient 2 assists to just 1 turnover.
With the victory, Madrid improves to 18–4, while Colfax‑Mingo ends its season at 7–17.
The Tigers now advance to host Central Decatur (14–8) at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 19.
