
The Madrid girls’ track and field team had two individual victories in throwing and distance events as it opened the outdoor season Tuesday, March 31, at the Earlham Early Bird meet.
Madelyn Grothus led the way for the Tigers and claimed first place in the 3,000‑meter run, crossing the finish line in 11:08.98.
Grothus also added a second‑place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.77 while Olivia Pudenz placed 11th in 2:51.66.
The Tigers also saw success in the field events.
Lauren Dvorak won the discus with a throw of 128‑10 while also placing second in the shot put at 33‑03.25.
Mayzie Surratt finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 28-08.50.
Running and hurdle events
Hannah Brandhorst placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:09.13, while Charis Peasley followed with a seventh‑place finish in 5:52.22.
Adelyn White finished third in the 100‑meter hurdles in 17.72 seconds and added a fourth‑place finish in the 400‑meter hurdles in 1:15.88.
The distance medley relay of Kimee Smith, Zoey Olson, Kiera Alt and Brandhorst placed sixth in 4:44.68.
The girls are next scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 7, at the Kip Janvrin Invitational at Panorama High School in Panora.
