Madrid girls rally past Panorama

The Madrid Tigers girls’ basketball team rallied back from an early deficit to defeat Panorama, 40-32, in their West Central Conference opener Friday, December 5 at Madrid High School.

The Madrid Tigers girls’ basketball team rallied back from an early deficit to defeat Panorama, 40-32, in their West Central Conference opener Friday, December 5 at Madrid High School. 

The game started slowly for Madrid, as the Tigers were held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 7-0.  

By halftime, Madrid had cut the gap to 19-12, but Panorama still held control. 

The Tigers continued to chip away in the third quarter, closing the margin to 30-23.  

In the fourth, Madrid outscored Panorama 17-2 to secure the win. 

Laura Eagleton led the charge with 17 points, including three three-pointers and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.  

She also added eight rebounds, one block and one steal.  

Mayzie Surratt contributed 12 points with two three-pointers and two free throws, along with six rebounds, a block and two steals.  

Samantha Springer scored 10 points, hitting two three-pointers, and teamed with Eagleton and Surratt to dish out two assists each.  

Lauren Dvorak anchored the defense with 11 rebounds and a steal. 

With the victory, Madrid improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. 

The Tigers will look to keep their perfect record intact when they host Eagle Grove (1-2) tonight at 6 p.m. at Madrid High School.
