
The Madrid Tigers girls’ basketball team defeated Ankeny Christian, 48-30, Monday, January 5, in a non‑conference matchup at Madrid High School.
Madrid set the tone early, taking an 11–7 lead after the first quarter.
The Tigers outscored Ankeny Christian 17–8 in the second quarter.
By halftime, Madrid had built a 28–15 advantage, highlighted by 11 first‑half points from Dvorak and 10 from Eagleton.
The Tigers extended their lead to 39–24 by the end of the third quarter.
And when the fourth quarter arrived, Madrid’s defense held Ankeny Christian to just six points in the final quarter to secure a 48–30 victory.
Laura Eagleton paced Madrid with 16 points, knocking down six field goals, including a three‑pointer, plus one free throw.
Lauren Dvorak added 13 points, scoring on six shots from the floor and adding a free throw of her own.
Samantha Springer contributed 8 points, connecting on a pair of field goals, a three-pointer, and a free throw.
Audrey Brown added 5 points, hitting a three and going 2-for-2 at the line.
Mayzie Surratt and Jocelyn Fuson each buried a three-pointer, finishing with 3 points apiece.
With the win, Madrid improves to 7–4 overall, while Ankeny Christian falls to 1–4.
On Friday, January 9, Madrid hosts No. 8 Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (7–0, 5–0) in a West Central Activities Conference matchup at Madrid High School.
