
The Madrid girls’ basketball team rallied from a first-quarter deficit to defeat East Sac County, 42–32, in a Class 2A, Region 3 first‑round matchup Saturday, February 14, in Sac City.
East Sac County had an 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers outscored the Raiders,16-9, in the second quarter to take a 27–23 halftime lead.
Madrid extended the lead to 37–32 after three quarters, and the Tigers held East Sac County scoreless in the fourth quarter to secure the 10‑point victory.
Laura Eagleton powered Madrid with a team‑high 16 points, knocking down four 3‑pointers on 6-of-11 shooting.
She also contributed 4 rebounds, 2 offensive boards and 3 steals.
Lauren Dvorak scored 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting while dominating the glass with 13 rebounds, including 4 offensive rebounds, and added 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block—all without committing a turnover.
Mayzie Surratt added 6 points, going 2-for-2 from the free‑throw line, and pulled down 5 rebounds with a steal.
Audrey Brown handed out 4 assists while Samantha Springer added an assist as well.
With the victory, Madrid improves to 11–11 and advances to the Class 2A Region 3 quarterfinals.
The Tigers will travel to face Hinton (17–1) on Tuesday, February 17, at 7 p.m. at Hinton High School.
