
The Madrid girls’ track and field team won the 4×800-meter relay Friday, March 13, at the IATC Indoor Championships at Iowa State University’s Lied Recreation Center in Ames.
Relay events
Madrid’s best performance of the meet came in the 4×800 relay, where the Tigers’ lineup of Hannah Brandhorst, Charis Peasley, Madelyn Grothus and Katelyn Brandhorst dominated with a winning time of 10:17.93, earning first place.
The 4×400 relay—featuring Kimee Smith, Kiera Alt, Adelyn White and Paige Richards—added a 19th‑place finish in 4:41.73.
Running events
Richards finished second in the 60‑meter dash with a time of 8.04 seconds after qualifying with an 8.13 in prelims.
She added a third‑place finish in the 200 meters, running 26.73.
Katelyn Brandhorst finished third in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:02.03.
Hannah Brandhorst followed in 10th at 5:16.11.
In the 3000 meters, Grothus also claimed third place, clocking 10:54.15.
Field and hurdle events
Lauren Dvorak placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 35‑06.50.
Mayzie Surratt threw a 28‑06.50 for 22nd.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Iyla Fine and White finished back‑to‑back in prelims at 10.54 and 10.56, respectively, placing 14th and 15th.
Ashlyn Burkhart added a time of 11.32.
The Madrid girls and boys next compete against Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Earlham and Gilbert at the ADM early bird meet Thursday, March 26.
