The Madrid girls’ cross country team won the Madrid Invitational and the boys finished third held at Grant’s Woods Park Thursday, September 4.
The Madrid girls claimed first place with a team score of 36 points, led by a trio of top-10 finishes:
Madelyn Grothus took 1st place overall with a time of 19:15.38, setting the tone for the Tigers.
Katelyn Brandhorst followed in 3rd place (20:02.65), and Hannah Brandhorst placed 8th (20:37.10).
Charis Peasley added a strong finish in 15th (22:52.40), while Katelyn Hanson (21st, 24:05.96) and Ari Mundy (22nd, 24:07.94) rounded out the scoring.
The Madrid boys placed third overall with 66 points, behind meet winner Ogden (48 points).
The Tigers were led by Cavin Pehl, who finished 4th with a time of 18:01.24.
Hudson White and Caleb Berberich placed 6th (18:10.20) and 7th (18:33.15) respectively.
Kris Petersen added a 13th-place finish (19:10.22), while Blane Schneider (39th, 21:47.56) and Aiden Titus (41st, 21:54.24) completed the team scoring.
The Tigers will compete again on Thursday, September 11, at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in a large meet hosted by Gilbert.
