The Madrid girls’ cross country team opened its 2025 season with a dominant performance Thursday, August 28, at the Southeast Valley Invitational, held at the Gowrie Country Club.
The Tigers claimed the team title with 41 points, outpacing nine other schools in the field, and placing 5 runners in the top 21.
Fort Dodge St. Edmond finished second with 78 points, while host Southeast Valley placed ninth.
Madelyn Grothus and Hannah Brandhorst led the charge for Madrid.
Grothus placed second overall with a time of 19:48.26, and Brandhorst followed closely in third, finishing in 20:43.26.
Charis Peasley placed 18th (24:11.94), followed by Katelyn Hanson in 20th (24:28.14) and Adelyn White in 21st (24:29.28).
Ari Mundy (29th, 25:08.66) and Ella Hutchinson (40th, 26:24.08) rounded out the team’s effort.

Madrid will host its own girls’ and boys’ cross country meet next Thursday, September 4, at Grants Woods Park.
The event will feature both teams from Madrid and Ogden and the Boone girls.
