07/27/26
Officer received several complaints about a green space on South State Street that had a large amount of dog feces on it that needed cleaned up. Caller stated that the heat was causing a terrible odor. Officer informed them that it was private property but that he would contact the owner and ask him to inform the apartment tenants that they need to pick up the area.
Officer did a background check on a possible future tenant for a local landlord.
Officer was notified by Boone County Dispatch of a company digging on East North Street that hit a gas line while digging. Officer spoke to the Public Works Director and staff from Black Hills Energy, who all shared information on a safety plan to fix the line.
Officer received a call of a suspicious vehicle at 22nd and Newton. Caller was worried because of the heat. Officer checked on the driver and he was just waiting for his dog to be groomed.
07/28/26
Officer received a report of fireworks being shot off the night before at the Kaeding Properties on Maverick/Brodie. Officer informed the caller to call when they are lighting them off and the officer would locate them and speak to the subjects. Fireworks cannot be used except for the dates/times provided by city ordinance. Citations will be issued if they are used outside of that timeframe.
Officer received a request for a background check from a federal government entity. Officer ran the subject and exchanged the information with the agent.
Officer was called to Dollar General for a suspicious subject. The caller stated that a man dressed in all black, wearing a black ski mask had just entered the store after crossing Highway 17 on foot. Officer located the subject and spoke to him about his dress choice in the heat. He stated that he was an inspiring rapper getting ready to go on world tour and didn’t want everyone to recognize him due to him being robbed several times in the past. Officer ensured him that Madrid was a safe place and its residents would not rob a rapper, but we would hug George Straight if he came to town. He agreed to keep his face mask off while entering businesses in the city.
Officer gave traffic control while the city street department painted curbs at the stoplight intersection.
Officer received a report of two juveniles fighting at Edgewood Park. Officer spoke with each juvenile and their families, neither juvenile or their families wanted to file charges on each other. Since there was no victim in this case there is no charges being filed.
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West 2nd Street for a report of a dog left in a car. Upon the Officer’s arrival the vehicle was pulling away. Officer viewed the dog who seemed content and not in distress.
Officer performed a vehicle unlock for a Madrid residence in the 100 block of County Line Road.
Officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue and Boone County Ambulance with a medical call at the Madrid Home.
Officer received a report of a dog running loose by the cemetery south of town, Officer was unable to locate the dog.
Officer took a report of harassment from one juvenile to another; the harassment was between the two juveniles who fought earlier in the evening. Officer will look into the harassment; this is an ongoing case.
07/29/26
Officer received information from City Hall Staff months ago about a dump key being stolen. The subject that took the key was trespassed from the dump and told that his company could not use it, due to several past issues. He had his girlfriend check out a key and then they never brought it back. Officer located the subject after receiving a tip from a subject. Officer recovered the key and the subject admitted that he had taken it and had no plans of returning it. Criminal charges are pending in this case.
Officer received a call from a Madrid resident that stated that she realized that her rear window in her vehicle had been broken out. She was out of town at the time, but when she returns, she will be calling back so that a call for service can be done for insurance.
Officer was called to a Madrid church in reference to a vehicle that had been parked in the parking lot for two weeks. Officer contacted the owner who stated that the vehicle had broken down. They stated that they would get it removed asap. Officer advised the staff of the conversation.
Officer responded to the 600 block of Maverick Ln. on a vandalism. A case was made at this time.
07/30/26
Officer responded to the Madrid Home for a report of an assault that occurred on Monday between two residents. Due to the fact that the suspect had mental decline and the victim and victim’s family not wishing to pursue any charges, the case is closed pending further information.
Officer returned a call reference a juvenile in the household taking a vehicle without permission.
Officer responded to West 4th Street, for a welfare check after a subject told hospital staff they wished to do harm to the resident. Officer recommended they get a no contact order.
Officer assisted Madrid Fire Rescue and Boone County Ambulance, with a lift assist at the Madrid Home
Officer received a phone call regarding a prior case. Officer referred the resident to the Officer in charge of the case.
Officer advised the city of a downed tree that was laying across 8th Street. City was able to get the tree removed.
07/31/26
Officer assisted with a downed tree removal on East 8th Street.
Officer assisted Deputies with a car/ deer accident just south of the city.
Officer received a phone call regarding a door-to-door salesman, Officer looked it up and discovered he had not applied for the proper permit, Officer searched the area but could not locate the salesman.
Officer spoke with a Madrid resident that had questions about reporting an assault that happened to a family member in Des Moines. Officer gave her information regarding the applicable laws and referred her to DMPD as the crime occurred there, if the family member wished to file a report.
08/01/26
Officer responded to Walnut and West North Street, for an automated crash detection notification received by dispatch. A cellphone was found at the scene, but no accident occurred. It was determined the owner left their phone on their car and when it fell off at speed, the phone sensed a crash occurred and automatically notified emergency services. The owner of the phone was identified and the phone returned.
Officer received a noise complaint in the 500 block of West 2nd Street. Officer arrived and spoke with the homeowner who apologized for the noise of a birthday party they were having. She advised the party was over and everyone was going home.
Officer performed a traffic stop for a vehicle with no taillights. Officer was warned for the equipment violation.
Officer assisted a Madrid resident with a lift assist, person was uninjured just need help back up into bed.
08/02/26
Officer responded to North Water Street, reference a report of a possible illegal burning. Officer inspected the burn barrel and found yard debris and firewood. Officer told the resident about the approved burning periods and advised to only burn firewood until that period starts on October 1st.
Officer responded to East 6th Street, for an open line 911 call. Upon callback it was determined to be an errant dial and everything was OK.
Officer removed a large branch from the roadway on West 7th Street.
Officer received a report of a minor driving a golfcart on East 22nd Street. Officer was unable to locate the golf cart.
Reminder to Madrid residents golf cart operation is treated like an automobile, the driver must be at least 16years old with a valid license to operate a golf cart. The driver can be cited for driving without a license and the parent can be cited for allowing an unauthorized person to operate a vehicle.
Officer attempted to follow up all weekend on a complaint of harassment, the complaint was made by a outside party, Officer attempted to speak to the person who would be the victim in the case and they have not returned any phone calls or attempted to speak with the Officer in person.
