The Madrid girls cross country team had a top 5 finish Thursday, September 11, at the Gilbert Invitational, held at the renowned Iowa State Cross Country Course.
The Madrid girls placed 11th out of 15 teams with 274 points, highlighted by three runners finishing in the top 30 while the boys placed 16th.
For the girls, Madelyn Grothus led the Tigers with a 5th-place finish in 18:48.39, one of the fastest times of the day.
Katelyn Brandhorst followed close behind in 10th at 19:09.09.
Hannah Brandhorst added a strong 27th-place finish in 20:03.22.
Charis Peasley finished in 23:26.38, while Ari Mundy ran 24:27.29.
Makay Mullenbach and Ella Hutchinson rounded out the scoring in 25:19.65 and 25:27.00, respectively.
Madrid’s boys team finished 16th out of 20 teams with 433 points, led by a trio of sub-18:30 performances:
Hudson White paced the Tigers with a 57th-place finish in 17:47.60.
Caleb Berberich followed in 65th at 17:59.20, and Cavin Pehl clocked 18:18.56 for 86th.
Kris Petersen finished in 19:20.17, and Blane Schneider ran 22:14.92
Aiden Titus and Landen Schneider rounded out the team’s scoring with times of 22:29.87 and 23:17.66.

Both Madrid teams will return to action on Monday, September 15, at the Mike Carr Invitational, hosted by Ballard at the Ballard Country Club north of Huxley.
