Madrid Junior/Senior High School was locked down Friday for just over an hour following a threat, according to school officials.

Superintendent Jason Gabel released the following letter to district families following the lockdown:

“Dear Families,

School safety is a priority, so thank you all for your patience and understanding this afternoon as we worked through our safety procedures.

Today at 2:00pm, Jr/Sr High Administration was notified of a threat and immediately engaged law enforcement. The Jr/Sr High entered a lockdown to ensure the safety of all students and staff. During this lockdown, no one was allowed to enter or exit the building but instruction was allowed to continue. Students were held in school [past] dismissal time to allow administration and law enforcement to complete a thorough investigation. Once we were confident the threat had been resolved and the all clear given at 3:05pm, students were dismissed using regular procedures at 3:15pm.

Again, we thank you for your support today. Our dedicated staff will continue working together to provide the best educational experience for all our students.”

No additional information had been provided as of 4:30 Friday afternoon.
