The Madrid Tigers gave their fans plenty to cheer about on Homecoming night, delivering a dominant 34-0 shutout over Earlham at Madrid High School.
Quarterback Loken Velky accounted for 295 total yards and four touchdowns.
Velky rushed for 189 yards on the ground and scored three rushing touchdowns.
He also completed 5 of 8 passes for 106 yards, including a touchdown strike.
Emerson Bridgewater hauled in 2 receptions for 57 yards, while Jacob Farrell added a 33-yard catch.
Brady Springer, Easton Halverson, and Jevyn Severson each contributed receptions.
Madrid’s rushing attack was well-rounded, with Easton Halverson gaining 51 yards on 10 carries, Will Atkinson adding 31 yards on 9 carries, and Kolbie Owens chipping in 23 yards on 4 carries.
Madrid’s defense kept Earlham off the scoreboard and forced multiple turnovers.
Terrin Lawrenson led the team with 7.5 tackles, while Halverson added 7 tackles, including 2.5 for loss.
Will Atkinson, Chase Perkins, and Kinnick Grimm each contributed solid tackling efforts, and the Tigers’ defense came up big with two fumble recoveries by Bridgewater and Severson, and an interception by Logan Bogardus, returned for 17 yards.
With the win, Madrid improved to 3-1 overall and remained undefeated in district play at 3-0, while Earlham dropped to 2-2 and 1-1 in the district.
Madrid will face a tough test Friday, September 26, when Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (4-0) comes to town for a non-district matchup with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
