
The Madrid softball team earned a pair of victories this week, defeating West Central Activities Conference foe Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center and rolling past South Hardin in non-conference play.
Madrid 9, AC/GC 6
Madrid secured a 9-3 conference win over ACGC on the road Tuesday, June 9.
Mayzie Surratt threw a complete game and struck out 10 batters while limiting ACGC’s offense.
Samantha Springer led the offense, collecting three hits, including a double, while driving in two runs and scoring once.
Tilly Sweet also tallied two hits, scoring a run, and knocking in a team-high three RBIs.
Surratt contributed at the plate as well, finishing with two hits and a run scored.
Hadley Mickle added two hits, while Audrey Brown chipped in with one hit and two RBIs.
Savannah Bradley recorded one hit and scored twice, and Ashlyn Burkhart added an RBI to cap off the Tigers’ effort.
Madrid 10, South Hardin 0
The Tigers followed up their conference win with a10-0 victory over South Hardin on Wednesday, June 10, in a non-conference matchup at home.
Surratt contributed two hits, two runs scored, a double, and a stolen base.
Springer finished with two hits, three RBIs, and a run scored.
Hailey Renslowe recorded two hits, driving in two runs and scoring once.
Bradley added one hit and two RBIs, while Burkhardt tallied a hit and scored two runs.
Sweet crossed the plate once and drove in a run, and Brown and Mickle each contributed an RBI.
Surratt delivered another complete game performance while striking out five batters in the shutout victory.
With the two wins, Madrid improved to 10-2 overall on the season.
The Tigers will host Des Moines Christian (7-3) in a conference doubleheader on Friday, June 12.
