The Madrid softball team saw its 2025 softball season come to a close Wednesday, July 9. in a tightly contested 2-0 loss to Mason City Newman Catholic in the Class 1A Region 8 tournament in Mason City.
Madrid’s offense was limited to just two hits—one each from Mayzie Surratt and Hadley Mickle.
Despite the loss, Surratt turned in a strong performance in the circle, striking out six in a complete game effort.
Madrid finishes the season with a 9-21 record.
For the season, Surratt led the team with 44 hits, 13 RBIs, and all 9 pitching wins, while posting a 2.30 ERA and an impressive 189 strikeouts.
Samantha Springer added 25 hits and a team-high 17 RBIs.
Ashlyn Burkhart contributed 20 hits and 10 RBIs.
Tilly Sweet chipped in with 19 hits and 13 RBIs.
