
Madrid’s softball team swept a pair of games at Iowa Valley Saturday, June 27.
The Tigers defeated Iowa Valley, 5-1, in the opener before rolling to a 10-0 shutout of Montezuma,

The Tigers broke through with two runs in the top of the second inning and later added three more in the fifth to create separation.
Iowa Valley’s lone run came in the bottom of the third.
Audrey Brown led the offense with two hits, including a double, while adding an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Savannah Bradley also collected two hits with a run scored and an RBI.
Kiera Alt added two hits while Mayzie Surratt and Tilly Sweet each drove in a run.
Rylee Borcherding recorded a hit and scored, and Elliana Tjernagel and Lucy Schealler each crossed the plate.
Surratt struck out 10 batters in a complete-game victory.
Game 2; Madrid 10, Montezuma 0
Madrid scored nine runs in the first inning on its way to a 10-0 shutout of Montezuma.
The Tigers tacked on one more run in the fourth to close out the win.
Brown launched a home run among her two hits while driving in two runs and scoring twice.
Ashlyn Burkhart paced the offense with three hits, three RBIs, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Alt had a hit, RBI, and run scored, and Hadley Mickle contributed a hit, run, and RBI
Bradley added a hit and scored, and Hailey Renslow drove in a run and scored.
Borcherding, Tjernagel, and Schealler each scored, and Surratt added an RBI.
Surratt recorded a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 batters.
The strong Saturday showing came on the heels of a tough West Central Activities Conference doubleheader home loss to No. 2 Interstate 35 on Thursday, June 25.
Madrid fell 9-4 in Game 1 and 8-5 in Game 2.
Now sitting at 18-13 overall and 8-9 in conference play, Madrid is scheduled to host Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (5-18, 3-13 conference) Monday, June 29.
