Madrid survives against Lynnville-Sully

The Madrid boys’ basketball team survived a tight game with Lynnville-Sully, 50-46, Tuesday, February 25, at the Des Moines Lincoln Roundhouse.

The Madrid boys’ basketball team survived a tight game with Lynnville-Sully, 50-46, Tuesday, February 25, at the Des Moines Lincoln Roundhouse. 

The Tigers held a slight lead at the end of the 1st quarter, 15-7, and also were narrowly ahead, 26-20, at the half. 

The Hawks took the lead, 38-36, at the end of the 3rd quarter, but the Tigers held on to win, 50-46. 

Toryn Severson led Madrid with 18 points on 7 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 2 free throws. 

Brody Buck added 15 points on 5 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 4 free throws. 

Jevyn Severson had a double-double with 13 points on 6 field goals and 1 free throw, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. 

Emerson Bridgewater had 4 assists, and Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz had 2. 

Bridgwater led the Tiger defense with 13 rebounds, and Buck grabbed 9 rebounds and 2 steals. 

Madrid improves to 24-0 on the season while Lynnville-Sully ends at 18-6. 

The Tigers will face Ankeny Christian (17-7) in a substate final at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Knapp Center at Drake University in Des Moines. 

Madrid beat Ankeny Christian, 70-67, in January. 

The game will be broadcast on AM 1590, FM 101.5, and streamed on kwbglive.com with sports director Ryan Wendt on the call.
