The Madrid softball team dropped both games of a West Central Conference doubleheader Tuesday, July 1, at home.
In Game 1, the Tigers fell 8-1.
Mayzie Surratt led the offense with 2 hits, a run scored, and a stolen base, while Samantha Springer drove in the lone run.
Kiera Alt and Hadley Mickle each added a hit. Surratt pitched a complete game and struck out four.
In Game 2, Madrid showed more offensive life but came up short in an 11-5 loss.
Springer had 2 hits, a run, and a stolen base.
Surratt added an RBI, while Savannah Bradley, Tilly Sweet, and Rylee Borcherding all contributed with runs and RBIs.
Mickle added two hits, and Hailey Renslow struck out two in relief.
The Tigers fall to 8-18 overall and 3-14 in the conference, while Pleasantville improves to 17-8 (13-5 conference.
Madrid will look to bounce back tonight at Panorama (6-19, 2-15) with first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
Baseball struggles against Pleasantville
The Madrid baseball team faced a tall task against conference-leading Pleasantville, dropping both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
In Game 1, the Tigers lost 11-1.
Preston Wicker had 2 hits, and Mason Moorman drove in the lone run.
Kolbie Owens added a hit, while Cayden Loerzel took the loss in relief.
Game 2 saw Pleasantville continue its dominance with a 15-0 win.
Wicker took the loss in relief as Madrid struggled to contain the Trojans’ offense.
Madrid drops to 6-16 overall and 3-14 in the conference, while Pleasantville improves to 26-1 (18-0 conference).
The Tigers now turn their attention to the postseason, traveling to Southeast Warren (13-6) for the first round of Class 1A Substate 6 on Saturday, July 5 at 7 p.m.
