The Madrid Tigers volleyball team faced a challenging slate of matches over the past week, including a West Central Activities Conference showdown and a competitive run at the Best of Boone County and Madrid Quad tournaments.
In a conference matchup Tuesday, September 23, at Madrid High School, the Tigers fell in straight sets to Woodward-Granger.
Rylin Velky led the offense with 9 assists, and Lauren Dvorak recorded 5 kills and 3 blocks.
Paige Richards anchored the defense with 6 digs, and Iyla Fine was perfect from the service line, going 10-for-10 with 1 ace.
Best of Boone County
Madrid competed in the Best of Boone County invitational Thursday, September 18, at Ogden High School.
Match 1: Boone 2, Madrid 1
Iyla Fine had 6 assists, and Dvorak led with 5 kills.
Richards had 8 digs and 4 service aces.
Match 2: Ogden 2, Madrid 0
Samantha Springer had 3 kills, Olivia Pudenz added 3 digs, and Richards served 2 aces.
Madrid Quad
Madrid hosted a quadrangular Monday, September 15 at home and scored a victory against Collins-Maxwell.
Match 1: Madrid 2, Collins-Maxwell 0
The Tigers had a balanced attack with 3 kills each from Richards, Dvorak, and Fine.
Lillie Benton had 4 blocks, and Velky served 5 aces.
Match 2: Ogden 2, Madrid 0
Jaela Hansen had 3 kills and 2 blocks, and Richards recorded 8 digs.
Match 3: Pleasantville 2, Madrid 1
Dvorak and Hansen each had 5 kills.
Richards added 7 digs, while Hansen went 8-for-8 serving with an ace.
Madrid now sits at 3-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The Tigers will look to regroup and gain momentum as they travel to face Coon Rapids-Bayard (14-2) in a non-conference matchup tonight at 6:15 p.m.
