Madrid Voters Await Special Election July 31st

KWBG 07/24/18

MADRID, Iowa—Voters in Madrid will head to the polls the end of July to select who will serve as Mayor and 2nd Ward Council member.  In April, the City Council appointed Kurt Kruse to fill the Mayor’s position following the resignation of Dirk Ringgenberg.  After Kruse was appointed Mayor, the council then appointed Eric Ohrt to fill the unexpired term held by Kruse.  Some Madrid residents then submitted petitions calling for a Special Election which is set for July 31st.

The ballot will have three candidates for Mayor.  They are Thomas W. Brown, Kurtis Kruse and Jonathan Whitten.  Voters in the Madrid 2nd Ward will also vote for the Council position by selecting Steve F. Burich or Eric Ohrt.

Early voting is still possible for Madrid residents by voting at the Auditor’s Office at the Boone County Courthouse in Boone.  The office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and will be open Monday, July 30th from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Those residents that wanted to request a ballot by mail needed to have that request submitted by last Friday, July 20th.

Voting in Madrid on the 31st will be conducted in the Madrid Community Room.  All three wards vote at the Community Room.  The polls will be open 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on the 31st.
