Poppy Malone finished 1st at 105 pounds for the Boone girls’ wrestling team as it competed in the Go-Hawk Girls Invitational at Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday, December 10.
Malone received a bye before pinning Addy Johnson of North Butler-Clarksville in 5:31. In her semi-final match, she won by technical fall over Taelynn Bass of New Hampton, 18-0. In the championship match, Malone won by decision over Kiersten McRoberts of Osage, 4-3.
Cadence Heggen placed 3rd at 190 pounds. After receiving a first-round bye, she pinned Maliyah Liddel of North Butler-Clarksville in 5:12. In her semi-final match, she lost to Briar Ludeman of Cedar Falls by major decision, 14-3. Heggen won by decision in the consolation semifinals to Zoe Koontz of Clear Lake, 8-5, and she won her 3rd place match when she pinned Kennedy Burk of Denver in 5:01.
At 170 pounds, Brooklynn Elliott finished in 4th place. She pinned Charlie Stucky of Fort Dodge in 2:32 and pinned Audrey Ruff of MFL-MarMac (McGregor) in 5:00. In the semifnal, she pinned Anna Johnson of Cedar Falls in 1:20 before pinning Kasy Stone of Waverly-Shell Rock in 2:17 in the consolation semifinal. Elliott lost her 3rd place match due to medical forfeit.
Others competing for the Toreadors at Waverly included McKayla Silbaugh at 130 pounds, Gracie Vodenik at 140 pounds and Kira Majak at 155 pounds.
