BOONE, Iowa—Marcella Lydia (Licht) Nell, 93, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on December 11, 2024, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. Marcella was born on November 7, 1931, to William and Lydia (Moench) Licht in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School. Marcella attended Concordia Teachers College and taught school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Boone, Iowa. On September 6, 1953, she married Orville “Shorty” Nell. They farmed until retiring and moved to Boone in 1996.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, and seven siblings.
She is survived by her three children: David Nell of Idaho Falls, ID, Bruce (Nanette) Nell of Fayetteville, GA, and Barbara (Nell) Nelson of Johnston, IA; four grandchildren: Christy (PJ) Nell Quirk, Jennifer (Eli) Nell, Bradley (partner, Manuela Palacios) Nelson, and Abigale (fiancé, Brek Leines) Nelson; four great-grandchildren: Felix and Amelia Nell-Burke, Finn and Cate Quirk; three sisters, Joanne Fevold of Des Moines, IA, Gladys Johnson of Fort Dodge, IA, and Inez Peterson of Pinegree Grove, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Standfest officiating.
