Margaret Carter

Margaret Carter, 78, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Margaret Ann Carter, age 78, of Boone, Iowa passed away peacefully at her home on February 26, 2026, with her family around her. As per her request, Margaret is to be cremated and services are to be at a later date.

Margaret was born January 1, 1948 in Boone, Iowa to Lawrence and Edith (Sutton) Grabau. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Boone.

She met Dennis Carter one night while uptown scooping the loop. They were married on December 23, 1972. Starting their life in Boone and welcomed Mari, Rick and Pam into their family. In 1979 they made the move to Margaret’s childhood home where they chose to raise their family.

Margaret was able to be a stay-at-home Mom until 1991, when she went to work part time at the Evangelical Free Church Home as a dietary aide in the kitchen.

She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed meeting up with her friends from church and the Red Hat groups she belonged to.

Margaret is survived by her family; husband, Dennis Carter of Boone, children; Mari Carter (Jason Lowe) of Story City, Rick (Liz) of Indianola, Pam (Mike) Baumgardner of Boone, sister; Marjorie (Joe) Stoneburner of Loveland, CO, grandkids;, Carter and Emily Baumgardner and Patrick Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parent, and brothers Richard and Ron.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, or Suncrest Hospice in Ames.
