BOONE, Iowa—Mark E. “Grizz” Blanshan, 73, of Boone passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his home.
Mark was born September 2, 1952, in Jefferson, the son of Floyd and Mary (Krenz) Blanshan. He worked for the Des Moines Asphalt Company for over 20 years as a truck driver, and was a member of Teamsters Local 90. Mark also trucked from coast to coast for a number of years, where he made numerous friends.
Mark loved riding his Harley, spending time with his dogs and going to the dog park. He collected model trains and had a track display in his basement. Mark was very proud of his 30+ years of sobriety. He enjoyed all his time with his coworkers and AA friends and all the comradery that came along with them.
He was preceded in death by parents, Floyd and Mary Blanshan; and two brothers, Gary Blanshan and Steven Blanshan.
Mark is survived by his nephew, David (Reanna) Lile of Boone; cousin, Karen Miller of Houston, TX; and many other cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, at 3:30 PM in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Montana Street, Boone, with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Following the graveside service there will be a Celebration of Life held at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM., with a time to share memories at 6:00 PM.
