Marvalene Peterson was born on April 22, 1939, to Marvin and Pauline (Schoberg) Peterson at the Boone County Hospital. She attended Marion #2 country school and enrolled in the Stratford Elementary School in the fourth grade, and graduated with the Stratford High School class of 1957. Marvalene went on to attend a business school in Omaha, NE and then worked in Chicago for the Burlington Railroad. She later returned to the Stratford area and worked a short time for the Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines.

Marvalene married Darrell “Pete” Anderson and raised three children: Kerry, Kelli, and Karla. She was employed at the Stratford Community School for 21 ½ years as secretary to the Junior-Senior High Principal and Athletic Director. She loved being around the students and always felt this was the most rewarding work she had the privilege of doing. After the Junior-Senior High students were enrolled in Webster City she took a job with the State at the Vocational Department and in 2002 she retired from the State Department of Education after 13 ½ years of service in Des Moines

Some of her activities included Sunday school teacher, Secretary/Treasurer for the Methodist Church, Chairman of the chicken dinners and food stand for auctions, Treasurer for the American Legion Auxiliary and Stratford Fitness Center. She was a member of Avon Chapter #504 of the Eastern Star. She transferred her membership to Magi Chapter #139 in Boone. This Chapter was also forced to close and transferred her membership to Polk City Chapter #361 in 2015. She held several different stations and was appointed Grand Representative of Kansas for the years 2016 and 2017. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and especially liked to follow their sporting events. She also loved reading, flowers, and yard work

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, son, Kerry, infant grandson, Jeremy Davis, parents, Marvin and Pauline Peterson, brother, Gene Peterson, sisters-in-law, Patty Peterson and Karen Peterson, and brother-in-law, Paul Stolte.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kelli (Nolan) Peterson of Stratford, Iowa, and Karla (Tim) Anderson of Duncombe, Iowa; sisters, Sandy Stolte of Boone, Iowa, and Sharon (David) Fruechtenicht of Tarkio, Missouri; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Jamie, Zachary, Erik, Joel, and Shelby; and four great-grandchildren, Ayveri, Barrett, Wren, and Dakota.
