Mary Louise Poling

KWBG 04/05/22

BOONE, Iowa—Mary Louise Poling, 95, of rural Boone County passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She was born on March 10, 1927 in Osceola, Iowa to Oscar and Bertha (Shuler) Conard. Mary was a graduate of Stanhope High School. She married Junior William Poling on March 23, 1947 at Mackey Methodist Church. Their union of 59 years was blessed with three children.

Mary was known by all as a very strong lady who never had any worries because of her strong faith. She was very caring, kindhearted, generous, and loved by all. Her love for people was shown by her dedication to serving as a 4-H leader of the Harrison Happy Hustlers for 28 years and teaching Sunday School at Mackey Methodist Church. She loved to garden and raise beautiful flowers. She also loved to cook. She won many awards at the Boone County Fair for her flowers and food. Mary was a devoted farm wife who worked beside her husband for many years, raising cattle, hogs, corn, and beans. She was in charge of farrowing pigs. Mary and Junior enjoyed square dancing and traveling. But most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren very much as they were the highlights of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior, her parents, and four siblings

Mary is survived by her son Phil Poling and his children: Leah (Kenny) Shannon, Alanna Poling, and Ann (Reid) Palmer; son Randy (Julie) Poling and his children: David (Lisa) Poling, Steve (Jennifer) Poling, Bethany, and Sarah; daughter Barb (Roger) Thompson and their children, Amy (Joe) Loonan and Emily (B.J.) Jordison; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home.
