BOONE, Iowa—Boone School Board member, Dr. Brian Mehlhaus says he will accept election results and will serve another term on the Boone School Board. Mehlhaus told KWBG News that with the results putting him in second place on Tuesday’s vote, he felt obligated to remain as a member of Boone School Board.
In unofficial results, Jeremy Pritchard led the Boone School Board vote with 1,561 votes. Mehlhaus received 869 votes. There were 739 write in votes, the result of a strong write in campaign by Helane Palmer. Fred Acuff was on the ballot and received 690 votes.
A number of school district patrons had targeted Mehlhaus for defeat in the election as a result of his vote to institute a mask requirement for students preschool through 8th grade.
