
Abigail Molitor placed first in her weight class as the Boone girls’ wrestling team turned in a solid team effort at the Colfax‑Mingo Invitational on Saturday, January 24, placing eighth overall in a 19‑team field.
Boone finished the tournament with 89 team points, highlighted by a championship from Molitor at 140 pounds.
Pella claimed the team title with 193 points, followed by Iowa Valley, Marengo (178) and Sigourney‑Keota (143).
Molitor ended with a first‑place finish at 140 pounds.
Molitor opened with a bye before recording three straight wins by fall, including a pin in the quarterfinals, a semifinal victory and a fall in the championship match.
At 190 pounds, Cadence Heggen placed third.
Heggen secured four wins by fall on the day, including pins in her opening two matches and victories in the consolation rounds.
Boone added another top‑four finish at 170 pounds from Gabriella Eckard, who placed fourth.
Eckard picked up two decision wins, including an opening round victory and a consolation‑semifinal win.
At 235 pounds, Brooklynn Elliott battled to earn a fifth‑place finish
Elliott notched three victories by fall, including a quick pin in the fifth‑place match.
Additionally, Emersyn Zehner picked up three wins at 135 pounds, while Johanna Meeks, Reese Majors, Brayleigh Haglund and Averie Strollo each earned victories in their respective weight classes.

The Toreadors next compete at the Class 2A, Region 4 state wrestling qualifying meet Friday, January 30 at 4 p.m. i Nevada.
Teams in Boone’s region include Algona, Boone, West Des Moines Valley, Harlan, Webster City, Nevada, Denison-Schleswig, Benton, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Prairie.
