Morgan Sterner

OGDEN, Iowa—Morgan W. Sterner, 85, of Ogden, Iowa, died on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa.

Funeral services for Morgan will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Pastor James Buckhahn will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona with graveside military rites accorded by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Morgan William Sterner, son of Morgan and Helen (Martin) Sterner was born on March 14, 1937 in Boone, Iowa. He received his education from the Boone Community Schools. On October 8, 1956, Morgan served in the United States Marine Corps until being honorably discharged on October 7, 1959. Following his military service, Morgan began his career as a truck driver.

Morgan married Eunice (Wolf) Buzzell on June 6, 1980 at the Community United Methodist Church Ogden. The couple resided in Ogden until January of 2021 when they moved to Westhaven Community in Boone.

Morgan was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Morgan and Eunice enjoyed traveling and camping. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, music and gardening. He was known as a tinkerer and liked to recycle things.

Morgan is survived by his daughter, Marie Slovensky of Salt Lake City, UT; step-daughter, Gayle Buzzell of Des Moines, IA; step-son Brian (Lila) Buzzell of Ogden, IA; three granddaughters, Jill Price, Michiko Berceau, and Rachel Slovensky; one great grandchild; two step grandchildren, Shannon (James) Sloan of Ames, IA, Brandon Buzzell (Hannah) of Aurora, CO. and two step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Sven (Jeanette) Sterner of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; half-brother, Richard (Deb) Bennett of Boone, IA; half-sisters, Janet (Ted) Welch of Macedonia, IA, Marsha (David) Bergstrom of Titonka, IA, Margaret (Kenny) Bayliss of Davenport, IA, Joanie Coleman and Jeanne Wimer both of Boone, IA, Karolyn Bennett of Ames, IA; step sisters, Donna Accetola of Seattle, WA, Rosalie (Norman) Taylor of Eastman, GA; and step brother, Donald (Carol) Brandon of New Haven, MI.

In addition to his parents, Morgan was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Eunice Sterner; sister, Rose Ann; brother, Jerry; step mother, Lucille Sterner and step father, John Bennett.

Memorials may be directed to the Community United Methodist Church or Suncrest Hospice of West Des Moines.
