New Ogden Girls Basketball Coach-Adam Eddy (Audio Interview)

KWBG 04/28/26

Transcript

And with us on AM 1590 FM 101.5, kwbglive.com, we get a chance to talk to new Ogden Girls basketball head coach, Adam Eddie, as he is joining us now. And first off, Coach, congratulations. And what's it feel like when you hear new Ogden Girls head coach? Thank you. It is awesome to hear. It's my first head coaching opportunity, and I'm really excited to get into it and really try and build something at Ogden. So Adam, tell us a little bit about your story, because it's interesting, because you are a nearby graduate from Ballard High School, made your way down to Texas. Now you're going to make your way back. So kind of tell people how you're returning to Iowa, shall we say? Yeah. So my wife and I moved down here to Texas. We live in Rock, or I teach and coach in Rock Wall right now, which is a big 6A Texas school. But we decided it's time to move back for being closer to our family. And so we're heading on back, and the Ogden opportunity was open, and I applied for it, and here I am. All right, so obviously the move was already going to happen. When you heard about the opportunity, and you're obviously talking to wife a little bit, are you getting kind of excited? Or is this one of those things? Hey, let's just see what happens. Tell me about that first, I guess, opportunity where you heard, hey, Ogden's open. Maybe I might go try this. Yeah, well, I saw that the Ogden job was open. And before I applied, I watched film, like any good coach would do. And I saw that the girls in compete. They were in a bunch of games last year. They're really good basketball players. And I was just excited to get the opportunity to apply, and now get to coach the girls. And I think we can do a lot of big things. All right, so you get the call, or you get the opportunity, and find out, hey, we're going to do the interview. Tell me about the interview process now, because I know you said this one was unique and not in a bad way. Yeah, no, it was really unique that the girls got the opportunity to interview me. I've never heard or seen that done before. And I think it was really good for me, because I got to talk to them. I got to show them the coach side of me. And they got to choose to accept me, like they chose that I was their next coach, or they approved me as their next coach. And that really is awesome to hear and to it's a unique opportunity for the girls. All right, so, and they didn't text you these questions, right, Coach? I mean, they had to actually use their vocal cords to speak. Yeah, no, they were well thought out questions in the interview process. I did a Zoom interview, because I'm still in Texas. But no, they were well thought out questions. And they asked them straight to me, and it was really cool. All right, what was the most difficult question you got Adam during the process? What was something that was asked that maybe made you pause for just a second, or that you thought, boy, that's a good one? I think the hardest question that I got was a question about my most difficult season as a coach. Just because it was this year, we struggled a little bit this year here where I'm at. And it was really hard for me to answer that, because I haven't had a lot of time to reflect on my season. I've had a little bit, but not as much as I would like to reflect on it. So a hard question to talk about and kind of reflect on what has happened here down in Texas. Oh, for sure. All right, well, every coach is going to answer this, and every coach and every person's going to want to hear this that follows basketball. But Adam, I'm going to guess that you don't want to slow it down, and you don't want to run five out. You don't want to maybe set a screen or two, and you don't want to hold it till the shot clocks over. I'm going to guess you want to get up and down. You want to play good defense. So I feel like this is always an easy question to answer. But what kind of style do you think that everybody will see in November once that basketball gets thrown up? Hopefully in November, you see the Ogden Bulldog play tough, hard-nosed defense. And then we're going to get out and take our opportunities with turnovers and get layups and run. Hopefully, that's what you see. We may get into this season and decide, well, that's not quite the team we are. We may have to slow it down and use the shot clock a little bit. We don't have the shot clock in Texas, so it's going to be new to me to have the shot clock. But if we need to use a lot of it, we will. But I think what you'll see is help hard-nosed defense and hopefully get it out and run in and make a flip. What's this offseason going to be like for you, Adam? You've got a lot of stuff going on, obviously, with moving back. And I know you would like to get in the gym with the girls and getting a staff and all that. I mean, this is a lot of stuff to do. It feels like that it always goes so fast time does. Yeah. Yeah, it will definitely go fast. We do have a lot to get done this season. But hopefully, end of the school year ends, and we'll get up there and get those girls in the gym and really start working towards next November. When you start talking about things that you want to get done, obviously, you can't throw everything at somebody right away. You've got to kind of implement what you want to do. And obviously, practices are going to help once we get into October and November and whatnot. But what's the first couple of things you think you'd like to teach the girls? We're going to start with man defense. We're going to play pack line. It's going to work and start there. And then we'll roll into the offense and all the different stuff we'll get into eventually. But we're going to start with man defense and play pack line and really implementing that hard nose defense that I'd like to play. What do you think is going to be exciting, coach, when you come out from the locker room and you get a chance to sit on the bench and you go out there and you shake hands with the opposing coach and the officials start to kind of talk to you before the game? What's going to be your kind of first thoughts going through your head, coach? I think it's going to be like, man, I'm really here. This has always been my goal. I've always wanted to be at coach and now I have officially fulfilled it. And so I think it'll be a little bit of nerves, you know? Using those nerves is a good thing and excitement. But it will really be like a dream come true. Adam, we want to thank you so much for some time. Congratulations, again, on the position. And we look forward to working with you, obviously, this summer, if you need anything from us. And then when the season gets started in November. Awesome. Thank you so much. You bet. That's Adam Etty. He's Audengirl's basketball new head coach joining us on KWBG.
