Nighttime Closures of I-35 Between Huxley and Elkhart This Week

KWBG 02/16/26

HUXLEY, Iowa—If you drive on Interstate 35 between Huxley and Elkhart you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime closures of I-35 that may slow down your trip.

Crews will be installing bridge beams across I-35 at 158th Avenue that will require closing the roadway to traffic. Northbound I-35 will be closed from NE 126th Avenue north to Iowa 210 from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18. Southbound I-35 will be closed from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, weather permitting.

When the roadway is closed, you will follow a detour route around the work zone using Iowa 210, U.S. 69, and NE 126th Avenue.

Changes could be made to the detour routes. Please visit 511ia.org for current detour route information before traveling through this construction zone and pay attention to detour signing and messages boards while driving.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
