Nila Haleen

AMES, Iowa—Nila Ellen Haleen, daughter of Virgil “Buck” and Bernadine (Hopkins) Craven was born on June 4, 1951 in Boone, Iowa.  She passed away at Mercy One in Des Moines, Iowa on August 31, 2022 at the age of 71 years.

Nila grew up in Boone and graduated from Boone High School with the Class of 1969.  On October 11, 1969, she was united in marriage to James Haleen at the Central Christian Church in Boone.  They made their home in Boone where they raised their three children: Angel, Andy, and Aaron.  For 20 years she owned and operated Duds n Suds in Boone.  They then moved to Ames where she worked for 20 years at McFarland Clinic in the environmental services.

Nila loved to sew, shopping, and loved to spoil her four cats and dog, but especially loved spoiling her granddaughters.  She was an avid Cubs and Iowa State Cyclone fan.  She loved going to craft fairs and garage sales.

Nila was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.  She is survived by her husband Jim Haleen of Ames, IA; her children:  Angel Haleen (Chad Morton) of Boone, IA, Andy Haleen (Kylie) of Boone, IA, and Aaron Haleen (Laura) of Ankeny, IA; 3 granddaughters:  Eimile Peel, Libbie Peel, and Bella Haleen, and one grandbaby due in February; two sisters: Diana Baldus of Carroll, IA, and Tammy Little of Ames, IA; one brother Gary Blumberg of Missouri; lots of nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; other relatives; and friends.

A time of sharing will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Beckwith Family Adult Day Center, 1111 South Linn Street, Boone, IA.  That will be followed by a Celebration of Life Gathering where the family will greet friends from 2:00 pm to 5:07 pm at the Beckwith Family Adult Day Center.  Memorials are suggested to the Animal Rescue League.
