Nutrient Reduction Strategy Celebrates 5th Anniversary

KWBG 05/29/18

BOONE, Iowa—It started as a collaborative effort and continues to be a collaborative effort, the Nutrient Reduction Strategy has been serving as the building blocks to clean water efforts in Iowa.  Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was on hand in 2013 when the strategy was revealed.  She said today that many have collaborated to make progress on the strategy and she feels that right pieces are in place to continue making improvement in water quality.  Reynolds made her comments at the Iowa State University BioCentury Research Farm.  The governor referred to the water quality bill, passed by the legislature this year and one she quickly signed.  The Governor noted the bill makes available the funding to continue developing and instituting clean water practices.

Reynolds was joined by Lt. Governor Adam Gregg; Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig; Hongwei Xin, Interim Director, Iowa Nutrient Research Center; Bill Ehm, Environmental Services Division Administrator, Iowa DNR and Jim Gulliford, EPA Region 7 Administrator.
