Ogden Man Sentenced to Prison for Eluding Law Enforcement

KWBG 07/10/18

BOONE, Iowa—A 37-year old Ogden, Iowa man has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a Boone County District Associates Judge.  A release from the Boone County Attorney’s office says that Alan David Millard, aged 37 from Ogden, Iowa, received the sentence for Arson, Felony Eluding, and Criminal Mischief.  The sentence is a result of a guilty plea on July 9, 2018, in which Alan David Millard pled guilty to Arson in the Third Degree, Eluding While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, and Criminal Mischief.  Due to the plea Alan Millard faced up to nine  years in prison.

According to the Complaints and Affidavits and plea hearing, the case was a result of an investigation from a 911 call on April 11, 2018 to the Boone County Dispatch.   The caller stated that Alan Millard had set fire to a barn on a property in Ogden.  The reporting party described Alan Millard’s truck on the property.  Shortly after the call, Boone County Deputies responded to the area.  They saw a fire occurring on the property and located Alan Millard’s vehicle on the highway.  Alan Millard led the Boone County Deputies on a pursuit through the city of Ogden and in the County.  Eventually the Deputies were able to stop Alan Millard’s vehicle.  Alan Millard admitted in court that he set the building on fire and led the Deputies on a pursuit without yielding to authorities.  He admitted that he was under the influence of a controlled substance during the time of the pursuit.  Alan Millard was arrested that day and taken to the Boone County Jail.  While in jail on May 16, 2018, Alan Millard attempted to escape the jail by climbing into the ceiling of the jail.  Alan Millard claimed he was stuck in the ceiling but eventually climbed down.  Alan Millard never did leave the jail facility.  Unfortunately during this attempted escape he caused over $600 in damages to the jail facility.

Alan David Millard pled guilty to his two cases in a hearing on July 9, 2018.  At this hearing, Alan Millard pled guilty to Arson in the 3rd Degree, Eluding an Officer while Under the Influence, and Criminal Mischief for the damages during his attempted escape.  His sentencing on the two cases occurred on the same day.  At this hearing a District Associates Judge sentenced Alan Millard to nine years in prison to be served at the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.  The State was represented by the Boone County Attorney Daniel Kolacia.  Alan Millard was represented by a local attorney.

Alan David Millard, 37, Ogden, Iowa.
