The Ogden volleyball team came away with the Best of Boone County volleyball championship Thursday, September 17, at Madrid High School.
Ogden, Madrid and Boone each finished the triangular with a 1-1 record, but the Bulldogs came away with the title based on points.
Match 1: Madrid 2, Boone 1
Madrid opened the night with a three-set victory over Boone, 2-1.
Rylin Velkyhad 20 assists for Madrid, while Iyla Fine, Lillie Benton and Abby Williams each finished with five kills.
Fine also led the Tigers defensively with 20 digs.
Paige Richards added 13 digs and Savannah Bradley had 10.
Williams led Madrid at the service line with three aces.
Richards added two aces while going 13-for-13 serving, and Fine had one ace.
Velky was 11-for-11, Bradley 6-for-6 and Hadley Mickle 5-for-5 from the service line.
Madrid served 91 percent as a team.
For Boone, Claire Hardinger led the attack with eight kills, while Ava Johnson added four.
Halle Johnson had seven assists.
Kaylee Kuehl recorded three blocks for the Toreadors, with Kyra Darby and Halle Johnson adding two apiece.
Karsyn Smith led Boone’s back row with 19 digs, followed by Taylor Engnell with 14 and Ava Landas with 12.
Halle Johnson and Kuehl each recorded an ace.
Hardinger and Kuehl both served at 92 percent.
Match 2: Boone 2, Ogden 1
Boone bounced back in the second match, defeating Ogden 2-1.
Hardinger again led the Toreadors with seven kills, while Halle Johnson had six assists.
Payton Stolte recorded a block.
Smith had 22 digs, and Engnell added 14.
Hailee Bingham led Boone with three aces, while Hardinger and Kuehl each added one.
Boone served 94 percent as a team.
Hardinger was 6-for-6, Engnell 10-for-10, Kuehl 8-for-8 and Smith 8-for-8.
In the loss, Ogden’s Ella Anderson finished with 19 assists.
Sidney Crane led the Bulldogs with eight kills, while Anderson and Macy Bristle each added five.
Sydney Craighton and Bristle recorded two blocks apiece.
Melana Sesker paced Ogden defensively with 16 digs, and Olivia Coleman added 11.
Bristle recorded two aces, while Anderson was 12-for-12 serving with one ace.
Ogden served 91 percent as a team.
Match 3: Ogden 2, Madrid 0
That set up the final match of the night, with the Bulldogs sweeping the Tigers 2-0.
Anderson had 15 assists for Ogden, while Crane led the offense with six kills.
Coleman and Crane each recorded a block.
Anderson also led the Bulldogs with eight digs, while Grace Christensen finished with seven.
Bristle recorded three aces, and Ogden was perfect at the service line, serving 100 percent as a team.
Madrid’s Velky finished with 13 assists in the loss.
Fine and Jaela Hansen led the Tigers with five kills apiece, while Bradley added four.
Benton recorded two blocks.
Fine led Madrid with nine digs and added an ace while serving 8-for-8.
Mickle also recorded an ace and was 6-for-6 from the service line.
The three matches left Ogden, Madrid and Boone all at 1-1, with Ogden earning the Best of Boone County championship on the points tiebreaker.
