Over 17,000 COVID-19 cases and 450 deaths in Iowa

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 263 new cases of coronavirus in our state, a significant decrease from the 419 COVID-19 cases reported on Saturday.  Iowa has now had more than 17,000 cases of coronavirus, which have resulted in over 450 deaths:  26 in Saturday’s update and 5 on Sunday, with 1 new fatality in Polk County, although the dates of these confirmed deaths were from May 19th to the 23rd of the month.  In central Iowa from Saturday to Sunday, 127 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Polk County for a total of 3,713, 17 in Dallas for 849, 10 in Hamilton for 26, 5 in Story for 94, 2 in Webster for 27, and 1 in Boone County for 54 overall.  Greene County holds steady at 13 cases.  Statewide, there are 363 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, but 9,312 Iowans – or 53.5 percent – have recovered, including 23 in Boone County.
