BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council’s Public Safety and Transportation Committee was approached by Autumn Seiler, Page and Lincoln Elementary Principal a couple of months ago about a plan to try and improve traffic flow around the Page Elementary building when parents drop off and pick up students. The proposal was reviewed by Police Chief John Wiebold and changes were recommended, including having the city establish one-way traffic on Boone Street and First Street next to the school. Some of the plans at that time have been changed, but biggest changes, the elimination of parking and one-way traffic remains.

Wiebold has said that officers may be required to spend some time making sure those that pickup and drop off students follow the plan. The school district has also made the plan available to parents with children that are dropped off and picked up at Page.
Boone Mayor John Slight said this week that the traffic congestion around the elementary building has been getting increasingly worse and neighbors have had issues with parking. The City Council has approved an ordinance amendment that will make South Boone (in front of Page Elementary) and First Street (on the north side of Page Elementary) one-way streets while temporary signage is in place.
