BOONE, Iowa—Randy Dean Johnson, 71, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on January 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Randy was born in Creston, Iowa, on February 5, 1954, to Guy and Clarice “Peggy” (Mowery) Johnson. He attended school in the Waterloo area, where he met the love of his life, Bronda Henson, and the two were married on July 17, 1970. The couple settled in Boone, Iowa, and raised 3 children.
Randy spent many years driving for Great Plains Gas, UBC, and Wilson Transfer. Later in life, he found great joy in serving as a foster grandparent for the Boone schools. He loved listening to music (especially Elvis), reading a good western, visiting with family at barbecues, camping, fishing, and traveling with his wife. One of his favorite traditions was frying up a big batch of chicken for family dinners, and it was always amazing! More than anything, Randy treasured the time spent with the people he loved. His kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Randy is survived by his sons, Travis (Katie) Johnson and Chad (Amanda) Johnson; his brother, Richard “Buck” (Rhonda) Johnson; his sisters, Linda Ray, Brenda (Bill) Davisson, and Cindy (Herb) Bishop; his grandchildren Roman (Jeniffer) Verbeck, Chris Johnson, Treven (Macey) Timmerman, and Haddie Johnson; his great-granddaughters Jamisin, Jazmin and Jordan Verbeck; a great-grandson due in the spring of 2026; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bronda; his parents, Guy and Clarice “Peggy” Johnson; and his daughter, Jennifer Johnson.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home.
