BOONE, Iowa—Ray Dean Hopkins, age 84 of Boone, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Westhaven Community.Ray was born on June 29, 1937 in Boone, the son of Ray E. and Mary (Steffy) Hopkins. He attended Boone High School.Ray was united in marriage with Helen Walters on September 17, 1955 in Nevada. From this union were three children, Darcy, Tim and Jean.Ray was the second generation to own and operate Hopkins Trucking, later named Hopkin Trucking and Excavating. After Ray retired, his son Tim took over the family business. Hopkins Trucking and Excavating was in business for 80 years.Ray enjoyed riding horses but then traded in for a Harley. Ray and Helen made trips on the Harley all over the U.S. and even to Canada. Ray rode to Sturgis for 32 years. Ray enjoyed the outdoors; Attending grandkids events and races at the Boone Speedway. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop, restoring tractors and attending tractor pulls, and fishing.Ray was a member of the Boone Elks Lodge No. 2884, the Loyal Order of the Moose #104, American Legion Post 56 and HOG (Harley Owners Group).Ray was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; sisters, Betty Johnson and Vivian (LeRoy) Nelson.Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen of Boone; children, Darcy (Dwight) Bosch, Tim (Lori) Hopkins and Jean (Randy) Cartee, all of Boone; grandchildren, Angie (Scott) Kruse, Kristin (Joe) Foss, Kyle (Shannon) Bosch, Amy (Jamie) Eckard, Aleesha (Kyle) Angstrom, Tyler (Kelli) Cartee and Mason Cartee; 13 great grandchildren; and nephew, Darrell (Deb) Nelson.Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel.
