Representative Phil Thompson Announces Re-Election Bid

KWBG 03/19/22

BOONE, Iowa—On Monday, March 14th, Representative Phil Thompson (R – Boone) filed for re-election to the Iowa House of Representatives in the newly formed House District 48, which includes all of Boone County and parts of Story County.

In his two terms in the legislature, Thompson has been a tireless advocate for rural Iowa. Most recently, Thompson championed efforts to improve rural Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by allowing them to be declared an essential service.  As Chairman of the House Economic Development Budget, Thompson prioritized improving partnerships between community colleges and local businesses to create a stronger and more prepared Iowa workforce.  Thompson also helped combat the growing problem of child care shortages in rural Iowa.

“Serving Boone and Greene counties these last two terms has been the most rewarding experience of my life.  Being an effective advocate for my constituents and our unique issues will always be my top priority.” Thompson continued, “I’m looking forward to getting to know new faces in Story County, and will work hard to earn their trust to take their concerns and values to Des Moines.”

Representative Thompson currently serves on five standing committees including Veterans Affairs, Education, Appropriations, Economic Growth, and Government Oversight along with chairing the House Economic Development Budget.

Thompson is an 8-year Army veteran, Airborne Ranger, and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran.  He lives in Boone with his fiancée, Rebecca.
