Residents Asked to be Courteous When Burning Yard Waste

KWBG 04/16/21

BOONE, Iowa—The open burning of yard waste is available to residents in Boone and Ogden.  In Boone, the ordinance permits open burning until May 15th.  Ogden’s ordinance permits open burning until May 31st.  During the spring, Boone allows the burning of yard waste between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The Ogden ordinance sets the time from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  For Madrid residents, open burning of yard waste is set by city council resolution and has been available since mid-March and will continue until May 31st.

In all cases, open burning is not permitted on public property like streets or alleys.  Any burn piles should be attended.  And, everyone is encouraged to use some courtesy and pay attention to the direction of smoke to avoid getting complaints from neighbors.

Another alternative for those that have the resources would be to take yard waste to the Boone County Landfill.  The landfill takes yard waste free of charge until May 29th this year.  The landfill has a composting program and uses the material as cover for the landfill operation.
