Rise in Retail Gas Prices

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship monitors fuel prices in Iowa and reported an increase in the past week.

Retail gasoline prices in Iowa rose $.05 this week, closing at $2.13 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.15 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $54.12.

Brent crude oil rose $1.07, and it is currently priced at $63.59.

One year ago, WTI crude sold for $59.19 and Brent crude was at $61.94.

Motor Fuels

As of Tuesday, February 12, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.13 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.05 higher than last week and $.46 lower than one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.27, down $.01 from last week’s price.

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose a penny from last week’s price with a statewide average of $2.74. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.99 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.18 less than the national average of $2.92.

Wholesale ethanol prices rose $.02 from last week’s price, currently at $1.33.

Heating Fuels

Propane prices were the same as last week for a statewide average of $1.32 per gallon. Home heating oil was up $.03 from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $2.28. Natural Gas prices fell $.10 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.58/MMbtu.
