Ronald Lester

OGDEN, Iowa—Ronald “Butch” Lester, 81, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.

A memorial service for Butch will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, Iowa. Reverend Heidi Farmer will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden has been entrusted with arrangements. Ronald Dean Lester, son of Donald and Marjorie (Hammarstedt) Lester was born on September 30, 1943, in Ogden, Iowa. Butch lived in Ogden until the age of 17, when he moved with his family to Maryland. He spent two years in Maryland where he graduated from Howard County Senior High School in Elliott City, Maryland. Following high school, Butch honorably served in the United States Navy from 1962 until being honorably discharged in 1967.

On January 20, 1968, Butch was united in marriage to Sheryle Stevens in Sarpy County, Nebraska. The couple lived in Rippey and Boone prior to establishing their home in Ogden. Butch was employed at Fareway Distribution Center in Boone, where he was a truck driver for over 34 years until retiring in 2017.

Butch and Sheryle loved traveling and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch was a member of the American Legion Post #0055 of Ogden, Iowa.

In addition to his parents, Butch was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Sheryle; his son, Ronald Jr; grandson, Zachary; great-grandson, Darren; great-granddaughter who passed in infancy; and his two sisters, Marilyn Stein and Carolyn Cowden.

Survivors include his two daughters, Stacey (Roger) Monthei of Jewell, IA, and Julie (Tim) Perkins of Johnston, IA; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family for a charity of their choosing.
