Salati Receives BCH 2020 Daisy Award

KWBG 09/09/20

BOONE, Iowa—Congratulations to Sarah Salati, RN, BSN, Med/Surg/Peds at Boone County Hospital (BCH), who received the 2020 Daisy Award. Sarah was presented the award at a small ceremony in the BCH south garden on September 3rd.

Sarah is a big believer that it is undignified for anyone to die alone. She is well known for staying beyond her working hours to hold the hand of a patient who is dying and may have no other family to be with them at that critical time. Sarah also believes if she can bring a smile to a patient who is feeling really bad, their time in the hospital will be made easier for them.

Sarah is a big advocate for working at BCH. She said the best thing about working t BCH is the team she gets to work with. “We, as nurses, are not taken for granted here. We are not a number; we are a person. For goodness sake, the CEO knows my name!” says Sarah.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an autoimmune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Peg King, Cardiac Rehab, Melissa Hilsabeck, Madrid Family Practice Clinic, Genev Calek, Anesthesia, Rosie Burdes, Med/Surg/Peds and Cardiac Rehab, and Shayna Voss, Walk-In Clinic were also nominated for the award. Congratulations to all of the nominees.

The Daisy Award is now in over 2,400+ healthcare facilities in all 50 states, and in 15 different countries, all of whom are committed to honoring their nurses with The Daisy Award.
