Salvation Army Food Pantry Sees Increase in Clients

KWBG 07/10/19

BOONE, Iowa—Summer time is a difficult time for local food pantries.  Donations are not as readily available and demand has not been decreasing.  Lt. James Beardsley with the Salvation Army, Boone Corps says the free summer lunch program served up to youth 18 and younger is a great benefit, but it still falls short of meeting the increased demand for service.  Beardsley says the demand for the Salvation Army Food Pantry in Boone during June virtually doubled from last year.

Beardsley also pointed out that there’s been an increase in numbers for older Boone County residents as well.

Beardsley says the Salvation Army will continue to work with others, IMPACT in particular, to meet the needs of Boone County clients.  He says basic items that will also be used are things like canned vegetables, instant potatoes, canned tuna or chicken, soups, box meals, peanut butter.

Beardsley says if anyone wants to find out what immediate needs the food pantry has it’s best to call and ask.  The Salvation Army phone number is 515-432-5770.
