Salvation Army in Boone Expands Music Program

KWBG 09/14/19

BOONE, Iowa—One year ago The Salvation Army of Boone began a free music program, in order to help
students learn music. At that time, The Salvation Army was able to provide lessons in Brass Instruments & Music Theory; however, thanks to a generous gift from the Boone County FORCE Fund, a new class is now available to be taught: Piano. Thanks to the generous grant gift from The Boone County FORCE Fund, The Salvation Army in Boone was able to purchase new piano keyboards to form their first Piano Lab.

“Words cannot begin to describe my gratitude to the Boone County Force Fund” Lt. James Beardsley, Corps Officer, stated. “Thanks to their support, we have been able to expand our program to provide piano lessons and help the students grow in their music development”. Currently, The Salvation Army has 14 students enrolled in their music program.

The Salvation Army’s SHOUT! Music School is a free community music program for students who are between the ages of 9 years old and 17 years old. Currently The Salvation Army is able to offer lessons in music theory, brass instruction, and piano.

Boone residents who may be interested in knowing more on how they can enroll their children into this free community program may call The Salvation Army at (515) 432-5770. Those who may be interested in volunteering to help teach music may also call The Salvation Army for more information on how they can volunteer.
