Salvation Army of Boone Announces 2020 Christmas Assistance Program, Ends Christmas Food Basket Program

KWBG 09/24/20

BOONE, Iowa—The Salvation Army of Boone, IA is proud to announce their plans for the 2020 Christmas Assistance Program. With COVID-19 continuing in our community, The Salvation Army has had to adapt and change their sign-up & distribution process.

This year, The Salvation Army of Boone will be offering two programs: The Angel Tree Toy Program for youth up to 13 years old, and the Home Goods Christmas Basket filled with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, trash bags and other household items that are not able to be purchased using SNAP benefits. The Salvation Army is also announcing the discontinuation of the Christmas Food Basket.

“Ending the Christmas Food Basket Program was a tough decision to make” said Lt. James Beardsley, corps officer. “After discussion & prayer we decided to focus our efforts, and funding, on expanding our toy program for children and the household items program.” Lt. Beardsley did mention that The Salvation Army’s Food Pantry will continue to be available throughout the month of December.

Those who would like to sign up for this year’s Christmas Distribution will be able to sign-up from Monday, October 5th to Friday, November 6th. Sign-ups will take place in their office on 509 Benton Street by appointment only. To sign up for the Angel Tree Toy Program, parents/guardians bring a valid form of identification, income verification and guardianship verification. Those with appointments must wear a face mask and not have any COVID-19 symptoms in order to enter The Salvation Army’s office.

For more information and to schedule an appointment, please call The Salvation Army of Boone’s office at 515-432-5770. Appointments are required to sign up for Christmas Assistance.
