BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are being planned for 81 year old Sharon Kay (Mills) Carstensen of Boone, Iowa. She died on Monday, November 22, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.
Sharon was born on November 30, 1939 in Ogden, the daughter of Roy Harold and Mabel Margaret Rose (Hauschild) Mills. She graduated from Boxholm High School in 1958.
On June 29, 1958, Sharon was united in marriage with Kenneth C. Carstensen in Dana, IA. From this union were two children, Bradley and Lori. Sharon was a stay-at-home mother for her children and watched her grandchildren for many years after that. She later worked as a home health aid for a few years before retirement.
Sharon loved to cook, she bred Shih Tzu dogs, enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables and in recent years kept house plants to keep up her green thumb. She enjoyed camping and listening to country and gospel music, as well as collecting Beanie Babies. Sharon was a giving person who found great joy when helping those around her. Sharon’s pride and joy was her family, she loved watching her family grow.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken in 2019; and an infant brother. She is survived by her son, Brad (Tracy) Carstensen of St. Joseph, MO; daughter, Lori Carstensen of Boone; grandchildren, April Allen, Jesse Frank, Jenny Faulk, Zach Carstensen, Amanda Carstensen and Kenny Carstensen; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Dale (Gloria) Mills of Rochester, WA; along with nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Sharon’s Family.
